Industrial production of Donetsk region increased in the first half of 2021 by 7.5%

Industrial production of Donetsk region (excluding part of the temporarily occupied territory) in January-June 2021 compared to January-June of the previous year increased by 7.5%. To a large extent, this is due to the favorable conjuncture of external sales markets (especially ferrous metals). However, the influence of negative factors was also felt.

In June 2021, compared to the previous month, the volume of production decreased by 0.4%, and against the same month in 2020, the increase was no longer as significant as in April (20.8%) and May (19.0% ), and amounted to 4.3%. The slowdown in dynamics was caused by the gradual exhaustion of the effect of the low comparison base (economic activity resumed due to the easing of quarantine restrictions since the beginning of summer 2020). In the context of certain types of industrial activity, the situation is very contradictory.

The volume of production increased in June 2021 both compared to the previous month and against the same month in 2020 in the production of chemicals and chemical products by 4.4% and 1.6%, respectively, metallurgical production and production of finished metal products - by 8.1% and 8.2%, production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products - by 13.6% compared to May 2021 and by 7.9% against June 2020.

In the mining and quarrying industry, production in June 2021 decreased by 8.6% compared to the previous month, and increased by 44.5% compared to June 2020. On the contrary, the June production volume in the production, supply and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air was 32.8% more than in May 2021, but 28.9% less than in June 2020.

In June 2021, production decreased both in comparison with the previous month and against June 2020 in mechanical engineering by 3.4% and 9.3%, respectively, textile production, production of clothing, leather, leather goods and other materials - by 3.6% and 4.1 times, production of coke and petroleum products - by 8.2% and 9.8%. The decline in the production of food products, beverages and tobacco products turned out to be especially significant: by 36.1% compared to May 2021 and almost 2.5 times compared to June 2020, which was caused by the lack of agricultural raw materials. If in 2020 there were enough sunflower seeds for processing into sunflower oil until August, now, due to last year's low yield of this oilseed crop, its reserves ran out in May.

Since the beginning of 2021, compared to January-June 2020, the volume of production increased in the production of chemicals and chemical products by 7.2%, metallurgical production and production of finished metal products - by 10.1%, in the production of rubber and plastic products , other non-metallic mineral products - by 11.8%, mining and quarrying - by 27.8%.

Production output decreased in January-June 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year in the production, supply and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air by 7.2%, in the production of coke and refined products - by 7.5% , mechanical engineering - by 14.8%, the production of food products, beverages and tobacco products - by 26.6%, textiles, clothing, leather, leather goods and other materials - by half.

The production of raw coal in January-June 2021 compared to January-June of the previous year increased by 27.2% and amounted to 6.1 million tons. The volume of hard coal, including shipped raw coal and beneficiation products, amounted to 5.6 million tons, which is 28.6% more than in January-June 2020.

Electricity production in January-June 2021 amounted to 5.1 billion kWh, which is 8.1% less than in January-June 2020.
