At the "Production of steel structures" JSC "Uralelectromed" (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of UMMC), a machine for thermal cutting of metal with numerical control (CNC) MultiCam was put into operation. The American-made machine has advantages over similar metalworking equipment: it provides precision cutting of sheet metal at a high speed and is easy to operate.
According to Andrey Myslyaev, Head of Steel Structures Production, the new machine will effectively process metal with a thickness of 2 to 80 mm using plasma or gas.
- Each operation is very fast, and the finished products are obtained with high quality processing. This is very important for us, since at the moment we are performing metal structures for the Svyatogor enterprise (part of the UMMC) and metal trusses for the third stage of the copper electrolysis workshop under construction, - he noted.
The unit consists of a plasma system cutting machine with a plasma torch, which works in automatic mode, a portal machine with CNC for technological process control, a bed and a support table.
Highly qualified gas cutters with a discharge of at least the fifth, previously trained, work on the machine. Appropriate impregnated clothing that protects the gas cutter from sparks, gloves, hard hat, goggles, earplugs and a mask are essential attributes of the safe operation of the machine.
Before work, gas cutters are thoroughly trained: they study the program written by the technologists, check the data with terms of reference, which spells out the number of parts, dimensions. The unit is controlled using a computer touch screen.
- It is important to monitor the parameters and timely change the current output. For example, if a metal with a thickness of 20 mm is opened at 200 A, then a thickness of 40 mm is cut with a current of 400 A.
