TMK has reduced energy consumption and emissions by modernizing lighting in factories

The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) has completed the next stage of the comprehensive modernization of lighting systems at its own enterprises — the Sinar Pipe Plant (SinTZ) has retrofitted lighting installations at its main production sites. It is planned that the reduction of energy consumption at TMK enterprises after the implementation of all stages of modernization will amount to 85%.

More than 3.5 thousand modern LED lamps, a new cable system and lighting panels with digital output meters were installed in the main workshops of SinTZ — for the production and finishing of oil grade pipes, rolled pipes and smelting pipes. The controllers convert the data coming from the meters and transmit it wirelessly to the interface of the general information management system, which allows you to build and visualize a graph of changes in voltage indicators. The system provides for the possibility of further integration with any sensors and equipment.

The modernization of lighting has improved the working conditions of employees, reduced the cost of maintaining the light points and had a significant economic effect. SinTZ plans to reduce electricity consumption by 39 thousand annually. MW per hour, which in monetary terms will amount to 134 million rubles.

Special lamps have been installed, which are effectively used in pipe rolling mills. Also, at the sites of the technical control department, where products are checked for compliance with the necessary standards, a system with an increased level of illumination has been installed — 1000-2000 lux (Lux) against the standard 200.

SinTZ became the third TMK plant to modernize the lighting system of its production facilities. Earlier, this process was completed at the Seversky Pipe (STZ) and Taganrog Metallurgical (TAGMET) plants. The effect of modernization at STZ amounted to 108 million rubles per year, at TAGMET — 171 million rubles per year, and the level of energy consumption for lighting production areas decreased by 85% and 75-82% in different workshops, respectively.

"Reducing energy consumption also allows us to reduce the carbon footprint of our products. As a result of the modernization of lighting at the SinTZ, according to our calculations, indirect carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 55 thousand tons per year. We continue to scale this experience to other enterprises — the lighting system is currently being updated at the production sites of the Volga Pipe Plant," said Boris Pyankov, Deputy General Director and Technical Director of TMK.

TMK is constantly implementing new practices to improve the environmental friendliness of its production. So, in November 2024, a new ventilation filtration plant was commissioned at the Pervouralsky Novotrubny Plant (PNTZ).
