Mechel received awards at Metal-Expo for the development of new metal products

Press Releases
Mechel PAO (MOEX: MTLR; NYSE: MTL), a leading Russian mining and metallurgical company, announces the participation of the Group's enterprises in the 25th international industrial exhibition Metal-Expo, which was held in Moscow at VDNKh from 12 to 15 November 2019. As part of the exhibition, Mechel Group enterprises won prestigious awards for the development of new products.

The Mechel Group's corporate stand displayed products from the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, Uralskaya Kuznitsa and Izhstal plants, Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant, Vyartsilskiy Hardware factory. For four days, about 30 employees of Mechel's metallurgical division, including the metal trading company Mechel-Service LLC, worked at the stand. Visitors received comprehensive information about all types of the Group's metal products.

In the competition for projects for the development and implementation of new technologies, equipment and metal products, the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant and the Uralskaya Kuznitsa plant received a gold medal for a joint project - mastering the production of rolls from large-capacity ingots. ChMK has mastered the casting of an ingot weighing 60 tons, from which rolls weighing up to 30.8 tons are forged in the Uralkuz forging shop. The rolls are intended for use by the Group's enterprises, which makes it possible to reduce procurement costs from third parties.

Izhstal was also awarded a silver medal for mastering the production of high-precision steel shaped sections for the needs of machine-building enterprises. In terms of the shape and dimensions of the cross-section, the new profile exactly matches the specific details of machines and mechanisms, which eliminates the need for their contouring. This provides significant savings in metal, energy and expensive cutting tools.

“We use the exhibition as an effective platform for meetings with clients and key partners. In four days, we have been able to hold many meetings that give a start to new cooperation and strengthen long-standing business relations, ”said Andrey Ponomarev, General Director of Mechel-Steel Management Company.

Metal-Expo is one of the the most popular industrial exhibitions in the country. This year, about 600 companies from 34 countries took part in the exhibition, and over 30 thousand Russian and foreign specialists from the metallurgical complex, mechanical engineering, construction industry and other sectors of the economy attended.
