Kolchuginsky plant "Elektrokabel" (part of the "Cable Alliance Holding", which unites the cable assets of UMMC), received a certificate of conformity for control cables of the LOCA type, intended, among other things, for laying in the containment area of nuclear power plants.
The containment area is the name of the part of the nuclear power plant that has a protective shell, because this is where the reactor is located. Cable products used in a containment area can be exposed to high temperature, pressure, humidity, as well as ionizing radiation and chemical solutions. Accordingly, they must have a whole range of special properties that allow them to remain operational even in an emergency.
LOCA cables are fireproof, their insulation and sheath are made of polymer compositions that do not contain halogens. But the most important thing is that they use the technology of electronic stitching of insulation. It is she who provides cables with increased resistance to chemical, radiation and abrasive effects. These products have good flow capacity, mechanical strength at elevated temperatures and durability. Subject to the operating conditions, the service life of certified cables is at least 30 years.
“The technology of electronic stitching was launched at EKZ in 2018. In a simplified way, the technological process looks like this: an insulated core enters the irradiation chamber and gets under the "bombardment" of electrons. In the insulating material, the formation of a super-strong crystal lattice occurs in a short time. Up to 400 meters of cable passes through the irradiation chamber per minute, "said Natalya Aleksandrova, chief specialist of the chief technologist department of EKZ JSC.
