As part of the modernization of the mill, carried out in May – June of this year, the heating furnace was reconstructed, the water cooling line was replaced, and all fans of the STELMOR line were replaced with new, more efficient ones. Modernization of the cooling roller conveyor is a key element of the reconstruction, allowing to achieve the main goal of the project - to impart special properties to wire rod with a high carbon content (0.45-0.85% C) to obtain a sorbitized lamellar perlite 1-2 points. On each line, 14 old fans were replaced with 16 new ones, equipped with motors with inverters, temperature and bearing vibration sensors, and motors connected directly to the impeller shaft. The heat transfer of the cooling conveyor after the modernization is more than 200 W /m², and the air consumption for the fans on the roller conveyor has increased to 125 thousand Nm³ /hour. The total additional installed capacity for both lines was approximately 4,500 kW, and the contract for the modernization of Mill 170 was awarded at the end of 2017 with Danieli & Officine Meccaniche S.p.A. The cost of the contract for the supply of technical documentation, equipment, installation supervision and training services amounted to 5.5 million euros. The implementation of the project will allow the main consumer of the mill's products - MMK-METIZ Magnitogorsk Hardware and Sizing Plant (part of the MMK Group) - to avoid the patenting process by increasing the uniformity of wire rod properties. Refusal of additional redistribution will increase the quality of products and significantly reduce its cost. In addition, the modernization of the mill will reduce downtime through the commissioning of new equipment. Currently, both lines of the mill are commissioned and are operating at full capacity. The updated equipment is operating normally and demonstrates high efficiency. Danieli continues to tune the water and air cooling modes to achieve optimum wire rod performance and properties. The first coils with products that meet the requirements of the hardware workers have already been sent for testing to MMK-METIZ. The wire rod mill 170 was commissioned in 2006. With its launch at MMK, a radical reconstruction of the section rolling production was completed, thanks to which Magnitka received the most modern production facilities in the country for the production of long products with a total capacity of up to 2 million tons per year. The unit was supplied by the Italian company Danieli. Mill 170 has a capacity of up to 765 thousand tons per year and is designed for the production of wire rod with a diameter of 6-22 mm, as well as rebar shaped wire rod with a diameter of 6-8-10-12-16 mm.
