The implementation of this project is a new approach to organizing visits to MMK, contributes to the popularization of the work of metallurgists, increasing the tourist attractiveness of the city, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, "said Nikolai Zvyagin, member of the board of PJSC MMK, head of the prospective development department report at the session "Innoprom-2021" dedicated to industrial tourism.
MMK has achieved significant success in the field of industrial tourism. Currently, the plant operates four excursion routes within the framework of the Steel Route - Excursions to MMK project: two for children from 6 to 14 years old (“At Dad's at Work” and “Guests at Metallurgists”) and two for adults (“Taming the Fire” and "Steel Evolution").
The plant pays special attention to the safety of guests in hazardous production conditions: they are shown a video instruction on safety, and they are allowed to enter the industrial site only in overalls and shoes. Tours are led by trained guides, in addition, each guest is provided with a radio guide system.
The company demonstrates a flexible approach to the development of industrial tourism. So, in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, excursions to the enterprise were suspended. Promptly responding to the situation, MMK launched the format of virtual tours - the historical cycle "Victory Route" includes four virtual excursions telling about the contribution of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works to the Victory of 1945.
To date, more than 15 thousand people have visited MMK as tourists, including about 2.5 thousand children. “At the same time, we are not satisfied with what has already been achieved,” Nikolai Zvyagin emphasized. - Our plans include, among other things, the creation of virtual excursions to hard-to-reach and dangerous workshops of the plant. In addition, in July 2021 we plan to launch a new route, where tourists can admire the views of the city and the plant from the water surface. " In addition, Nikolai Zvyagin said that MMK had reached an agreement with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) on the creation of a working group to prepare for the opening of the first Russian industrial tourism competence center on the basis of MMK. The center will become a platform where representatives of various enterprises can exchange experiences and learn about the best practices in the field of industrial tourism. And in October 2021, an interregional forum on industrial tourism is to be held in Magnitogorsk.
