Pavel Shilyaev, General Director of PJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, took part in the first organizational meeting of the Environmental Coordination Council, created at the initiative of the head of the Chelyabinsk Region, Alexei Teksler.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the largest industrial enterprises of the Chelyabinsk region, environmental movements and experts. The primary task of the coordinating council will be to develop an environmental standard. The council will include scientists, industrialists and social activists. The council will be chaired by the chairman of the Russian Ecological Society Rashid Ismailov.

The head of the region noted the readiness for dialogue on the part of the leading industrial enterprises of the Chelyabinsk region.

- Only through joint efforts of the authorities, industrialists and environmentalists can these issues be resolved, - stressed Pavel Shilyaev, General Director of PJSC MMK, - For many years our plant has been implementing its own environmental projects, and much in this direction has already done. MMK's contribution to improving the environmental situation has been repeatedly noted, including by the expert community. Environmental programs developed at MMK, in particular, the “Clean City” strategic initiative, have become part of national projects. But for the implementation of these projects, coordination of actions and constructive interaction with government agencies and public organizations are required. I consider the creation of a coordinating council timely and necessary, and I hope for fruitful cooperation of its members.

The implementation of the strategic initiative "Clean City" of PJSC MMK, developed until 2025, will reduce total emissions in Magnitogorsk by 20% and reduce emissions of the most dangerous class I and II pollutants by 10 times. A big contribution to the implementation of this program was the commissioning in July of this year of a new sinter plant No. 5 with a total investment of 30 billion rubles. Among the promising projects - the construction of a complex of coke oven battery No. 12 and a new blast furnace No. 11. The total costs of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine for environmental activities in the period from 2000 to 2018 exceeded 58 billion rubles.
