The European Union remains passive in the economic battle with the White House, while US President Donald Trump continues to pursue his protectionist policies in the international trading system.

Business confusion between Europe and the United States

The United States continues to argue over trade and economic issues with other countries of the world. The fact is that US President Donald Trump intends to escalate tensions before the 2020 presidential election. Many international experts and analysts believe that the bulk of Trump's economic approach to the world has an electoral and political purpose.

Many international analysts are currently talking about conflicts between the United States and Europe over the imposition of “draconian” tariffs on steel and aluminum as a transatlantic “trade war.”

On the other hand, the authorities of Germany, Great Britain and France did not take the proper approach to the policy of the President of the United States. While politicians such as Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Theresa May may try to resolve the situation and prevent the escalation of tensions with Washington, business owners and European opposition parties are so unhappy with the protectionism of Trump and the US government that the European authorities are unable to control the situation. or don't even hide it.

One of the most important reasons for the continuation of Trump's economic policy in the world is the passivity of European leaders against the White House. Europe, doing nothing in reality, simply threatens to take revenge on the US if Trump continues tariffs on steel and aluminum for European exports.

After Trump made his first announcement of tariffs on metals imports, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker threatened to impose reciprocal duties on American goods. This could reduce the demand for these products within EU borders and, as a result, lead to the loss of jobs for American workers. But in practice, European countries did nothing about this.

While some European citizens believed that the German Chancellor would have a more decisive approach than other European politicians, this was also a mistake. The German Chancellor said that the member states of the European Union should provide the EU Trade Commissioner with a clear mandate to negotiate with the United States and did not comment on the matter again.

For several months, the White House has been taking anti-European measures and customs duties on European aluminum and steel. However, European countries prefer to remain silent. It is possible that the protracted negotiations between the US and the EU on steel and aluminum tariffs will lead to increased discontent among European public opinion. It will also affect the performance of US companies in Europe.
