Polymers are rapidly conquering the market. Where a few years ago steel or non-ferrous metals were used in production, they are being replaced by plastic. It is much cheaper to manufacture and prevails in operational properties. It is for this reason that buying a thermoplastic elastomer in order to put it into practice would be the right decision. But how widely is it used in practice?

Basic physical and operational properties of the polymer

The material is widely used in practice. Effectively replaces metals and some natural materials. Especially in areas where chemical resistance is critical. In addition, other equally important properties of thermally active plastic contributed to the popularity:

  1. Physical resistance to abrasive wear.
  2. Durability, plastic does not age over time.
  3. Scratches rarely appear on its surface.
  4. Virtually insensitive to the damaging effects of sunlight.
  5. Pretty good transparency in its purest form.

The polymer has proven itself especially well when used outdoors. Temperature fluctuations, high humidity, the use of chemically active substances will not cause premature wear of plastic parts. The thermoplastic material will retain its original physical parameters for a long time.

Main applications

Due to its physical and operational characteristics, plastic is widely used in mechanical engineering. Sealing materials and thermoplastic guide bushings do the job perfectly. They serve for a long time and practically do not require additional lubrication. In addition, the polymer has found its application in other areas:

  • construction of machinery and agricultural equipment;
  • production of complex metal and woodworking machines;
  • manufacture of a wide variety of instruments;
  • as an insulating material for power wires;
  • breathable and weatherproof films.

The raw material is perfectly served by heat treatment and does not need a complex preparatory process. Due to this feature of the polymer, complex parts can be made from it without the use of expensive equipment. In addition, finished products have practically no expiration date and can be stored until use for an unlimited time under standard storage conditions.
