The courier is on site, but the recipient is not: What's going on with the bouquet and how can I save the delivery?

A situation familiar to many: you decided to make a surprise, ordered a luxurious bouquet, the courier arrived at the address on time, but no one opens the door. The recipient's phone is silent or is "out of range of the network." Is the holiday ruined? Not at all. Floral companies and delivery services have clear protocols in place in case the recipient is unavailable.

Let's take a step-by-step look at what can be done in this situation and how to avoid returning flowers to the salon.

1. Standard waiting time

The first rule of courier ethics is waiting. The courier usually waits at the address for 15 minutes. At this time, the following actions occur::

  • A call to the recipient. Even if you asked to make a surprise and not call in advance, if the person is not at home, the courier is obliged to try to contact him to clarify the location.
  • A call to the customer. If the recipient does not respond, the store manager contacts you (the customer). At this point, you can suggest another phone number, ask to wait a little longer (often for an additional fee), or give the go-ahead for an alternative delivery method.

2. Plan "B": where to leave the flowers?

If you have not been able to contact the recipient, but you are in touch with the courier, there are several ways to solve the problem so that the bouquet still reaches the recipient.:

  • Transfer to third parties. The most popular option is to leave flowers for neighbors, the concierge or colleagues (if the delivery is to the office). The courier must record the name and contact of the person who accepted the order and provide them to you.
  • Leave it at the door. Contactless delivery is practiced in closed residential complexes or private houses with protected areas. The bouquet can be left at the apartment door or hung on the handle (if the packaging and weather conditions allow). However, this is done only under the responsibility of the customer.

3. Return the bouquet to the salon and re-delivery

If there is no one to leave the flowers, and the recipient has not contacted, the courier is forced to return the order back to the florist.

It is important to remember the financial nuances:

  1. Repeat delivery is subject to a charge. The courier's departure was carried out, so the second flight is charged separately.
  2. The life span of flowers. Cut flowers are a perishable commodity. If the recipient gets in touch only after a day or two, the store will not be able to guarantee the freshness of the same bouquet. In some cases (according to the offer agreement) you will have to pay for the creation of a new composition.

How to prevent such a situation?

To make the surprise a success the first time, follow simple rules when placing an order.:
