Global steel production in 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) in December 2022 amounted to 140.7 million tons, which is 10.8% less than in December 2021.
China produced 77.9 million tons in December 2022, down 9.8% from December 2021. India produced 10.6 million tons, up 0.8%. Japan produced 6.9 million tons, down 13.1%.
The United States produced 6.5 million tons, down 8.3% from a year earlier.
The association estimates that Russia produced 5.5 million tons of steel, down 11.3% from December 2021.
South Korea produced 5.2 million tons, down 11.6% . Germany produced 2.7 million tons, down 14.6%.
Turkey produced 2.7 million tons of steel, down 20.0%. Brazil produced 2.5 million tons, down 5.2%.
Iran produced 2.7 million tons in December 2022, up 3.3% from December 2021.
The total world production of crude steel in 2022 amounted to 1 billion 878.5 million tons, which is 4.2% less than in 2021.
