In the first quarter of this year, the Chinese shipbuilding industry showed strong performance, while maintaining a large share of the global shipbuilding market in terms of completed, new and existing orders, according to the data of the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of the PRC.
According to official data, in January-March this year, the volume of production in the Chinese shipbuilding sector amounted to about 9.79 million DWT, which is 39.8% more than a year earlier. China accounted for 43.4% of total industry production worldwide.
In the first three months of this year, the volume of new orders received by China for the construction of ships amounted to 17.2 million DWT, an increase of 251.7% year on year. China accounted for 47.4% of all new shipbuilding orders in the world.
By the end of March 2021, China's shipbuilding orders stood at 78.48 million DWT, down 1.4% year on year. China accounted for 44.6% of all shipbuilding orders in the world.
