Tesla began rolling out the first Model Y cars to customers on Tuesday, produced at its €5 billion Grünheide plant, launching its first European manufacturing center with the largest investment in a German car plant in recent memory.
Earlier in March, Tesla received the green light to open its giant factory near Berlin, ending months of delays.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Tesla CEO Elon Musk will hold the grand opening of the American company's first production site in Europe near Berlin. German Economy Minister Robert Habeck and Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Wodke will also take part in the commissioning.
Musk originally planned to roll the first cars off the German assembly line last summer. However, the approval process was delayed, in part because Tesla added a battery plant to its bid.
