Kirchhoff signs memorandum of understanding with Arvedi's Arvzero steel

Italian steelmaker Arvedi has joined forces with German component manufacturer Kirchoff automotive to increase the presence of carbon-neutral steel in the automotive sector supply chain, Kallanish said in a statement.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two firms in Cremona, Kirchoff is integrating the Arvzero steel brand, produced by Arvedi based on environmentally friendly technologies, into its portfolio in order to reduce emissions from the third category in its value chain.

The CEO of Kirchoff J. J. Wolfgang Kirchhoff and Michael Rank, Vice President of Procurement, recently visited the Arvedi steelmaking plant in Cremona, where they observed the full production cycle from liquid steel production to rolled products at a distance of less than 200 meters.

According to Kirchoff, this setup highlights the effectiveness of the integrated process at Arvedi. According to the company's representatives, this visit underscores the importance of partnership: a clear roadmap for the production of low-CO2 and zero-CO2 steel, as well as a strong partnership with a pioneer in the field of decarbonization.

In 2023, the Arvedi plant in Cremona received a carbon neutrality certificate after significantly reducing emissions in volumes 1 and 2 through investments in new EDP supplied by Tenova and reducing the use of cast iron and other polluting raw materials. In the same year, the first carbon neutrality certificate for Arvedi's Arvzero coils was issued for a major contract supply with Mercedes Benz. (see Kallanish passim).
