"We are becoming more efficient - this means that our people who work in the energy sector - it is necessary to offer a new future. It is necessary to look for new jobs: the government, respecting the mines, looking for how to implement the plans", - said Ariel.
He noted that burning of coal should stay in the past, and in Ukraine it is necessary to develop renewable energy.
in addition, according to the Minister of energy until the government buys coal for the Ukrainian thermal power plants, which is not fully consumed, in particular due to climate change and warm winters.
"besides, we're paying for in advance of coal stock at our thermal power plant more than we burn, as the climate changed. Let's face it, coal mining in the new conditions is not profitable," he added Ariel.
Previously, the government stated that they want to close unprofitable state-owned mines and to find new jobs for their employees.
According to the Minister of energy and environmental protection Alexey Orzhel, yet because of the warm winter, Ukraine does not consume the amount of coal produced. Because of this, in particular accumulate wage arrears to miners.
Yesterday, the government sent an additional 163 million hryvnia on repayment of debts to miners.
