A major overhaul of converter No. 2, one of the main smelting units, was completed at the branch "Production of polymetals" (PPM) of JSC "Uralelectromed" (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of the UMMC). The work completed in 30 days included the replacement of the lining, the ascending duster, the foundation of the supporting metal structures of the cyclone, the casing with the cyclone cover, the gas duct section. - The main feature of the repair was the replacement of the cyclone - the unit of the first stage of flue gas purification, in which coarse dust is accumulated. The previous cyclone lasted more than 15 years. The new one will serve no less, - said Alexei Sobolev, head of the PPM metallurgical shop. Overhaul of the converter is carried out every four years. It is preceded by a lot of preparatory work. Workers of the shop for centralized repair of equipment and colleagues from the branch "Production of non-ferrous metal alloys" (Verkh-Nevinsky) worked on the manufacture of metal structures. Installation was carried out by specialists of the metallurgical shop and contractors. The PPM acceptance committee noted the high level of work carried out and accepted the converter into operation with an “excellent” rating.
It is worth noting that there are four converters in operation in the PPM metallurgical shop. The unit is designed for converting copper matte in order to obtain blister copper. The branch daily smelts about 170-200 tons of blister copper, which goes for fire refining to the copper smelting shop of the main site of Uralelectromed JSC to produce copper anodes.
