Hungary allowed Russia to build two nuclear power units

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Administration has issued a permit to the state corporation Rosatom for the construction of the 5th and 6th power units of the Paks nuclear power plant, which will make up the Paks-2 nuclear power plant. The permit is valid for ten years. Construction could begin as early as October.

Paks NPP is the only operating nuclear power plant in Hungary. It was built according to the Soviet project. The parties signed a contract for the construction of new power units back in 2014.

It is planned that two units of the VVER-1200 project will be built at Paks-2 NPP. The general designer was Atomproekt, which is part of the structure of Rosatom.
