Severstal launched its digital transformation program two years ago. Its key areas include improving product quality and reducing production costs, optimizing supply planning, developing data storage infrastructure, environmental friendliness of production and its safety.
“With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), we assess the quality of flat products, give recommendations on the shipment of finished products, sort and classify surface defects. Our goal is to identify 100% of deviations using AI (today - 45%), predict 80% of them (now - 20%) and in 80% of cases make decisions automatically, based on algorithms (now they provide up to 50%) " , - said the head of the Directorate for Technical Development and Quality of the Severstal company Pyotr Mishnev.
In the metallurgical industry, the use of basic informatization systems (MES - production management systems, ERP - resource management systems), data collection and other technologies is quite widespread, Mishnev said.
"In fact, this is the basis for the implementation of new solutions based on machine learning, computer vision, as well as recommendation systems and intelligent decision support systems," he explained.
