Steel production at Zaporizhstal in January-February 2023 amounted to 33% of the last year's level

From January to February 2023, the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant produced 209.2 thousand tons of steel, which amounted to 32.6% of the production level in January-February 2022. In February, steel smelting at the Zaporozhye metallurgical plant of the Dutch company Metinvest B.V. (Metinvest) decreased in annual comparison by 62% - to 119.4 thousand tons.

Pig iron production at Zaporizhstal in January-February 2023 amounted to 291.6 thousand tons (38.5% to APPG), the shipment of finished metal products decreased by 65.3% year-on-year to 174.2 thousand tons of rolled products.

The decrease in production compared to the same period last year is due to a shortage of raw materials and logistical problems, caused by full-scale military operations on the territory of Ukraine.

Recall that in connection with the escalation of hostilities in the region, since the beginning of March 2022, Metinvest transferred part of the equipment of the Zaporizhstal plant to hot conservation mode.

At the end of March 2022, the Zaporizhstal steel plant » partially resumed operation of the cold rolling shop for the production and shipment of cold rolled coils to the European consumer. A month after the forced shutdown, Zaporizhstal removed equipment from mothballing and partially resumed production.

Since April 2022, the plant has been operating at an average of 50% of its capacity.
