Private joint stock company Ukrhydroenergo has begun working with two law firms to develop a high-level litigation and arbitration strategy to hold the Russian Federation accountable for targeted attacks on the company's infrastructure and assets, including the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, as well as compensation for the damage caused. This was reported by the press service of Ukrhydroenergo.
The election of the companies took place with the help of the Pro Bono Platform of the Energy Community Secretariat. The two law firms jointly pledged to provide 375 hours of legal work free of charge.
Ukraine's largest hydro-generating company recalled that since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian army has attacked Ukrhydroenergo facilities more than 50 times, which resulted in to the loss of about 2.5 thousand MW of capacity.
“The Secretariat of the Energy Community and Ukrhydroenergo are collaborating to coordinate the strategic and legal support of the company’s claims against Russia regarding compensation for infrastructure and commercial damage caused by the military invasion of Ukraine,” noted in the press service of Ukrhydroenergo.
