Ukraine reported the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the West-Central part of the country, the first of these outbreaks for almost three years, announced world organization for animal health (office International des Epizooties, OIE) on Monday.
Referring to the report of the veterinary services of Ukraine, the OIE said the virus has the serotype H5, but gave no details. In addition, the report refers to two cases of African swine fever on the territory of Ukraine.
the H5N8 Virus, which is often tolerated by migratory wild birds, in recent weeks, has spread to Eastern Europe, affecting farming and poultry in Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.
Monday, Germany announced that it had discovered a case of bird flu H5N8 in wild birds, adding that poultry farms had not been infected.
According to the OIE, as a result, Ukrainian bird flu outbreak killed 4 856 birds from the flock 98 000 individuals in Vinnitsa. The rest of the herd were destroyed as part of quarantine measures.

Although some avian influenza viruses can infect both birds and humans, the H5N8 strain has so far not been recorded in humans.
