Metallurgical production of the Donetsk region of Ukraine in October increased by 8.1%

Industrial production of the Donetsk region (excluding part of the temporarily occupied territory) in January-October 2020 compared to January-October 2019 decreased by 8.3%. At the same time, in October, for the first time since the beginning of the year, a positive trend was achieved compared to the same month of the previous year. The monthly production volume increased by 1.8% compared to October 2019.

However, the recovery in demand, which declined amid the quarantine imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, slowed in October. The increase in production compared to the previous month amounted to only 0.1% (in August this figure was 6.4%, in September - 2.9%) and was provided due to the increase in production in the fuel and energy complex characteristic of the autumn period, and also a seasonal increase in the resources of agricultural raw materials for the food industry.

October production volume increased compared to September 2020 in the production of coke and refined products by 8.6%, in the mining and quarrying industries - by 9.0%, in the production, supply and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air - by 18.4%, the production of food products, beverages and tobacco products - by 18.6%. At the same time, in October 2020, there was a decline in comparison with the previous month in the production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products by 3.6%, metallurgical production and production of finished metal products - by 8.1%, production of chemicals and chemical products - by 10.6%, mechanical engineering - by 42.9%.

In October 2020, compared to the same month in 2019, the volume of production increased in the production of food products, beverages and tobacco products by 3.9%, in the mining and quarrying industries - by 5.0%, in metallurgy and in the production of finished metal products - by 14.0%. In the production of coke and refined petroleum products, a decrease was recorded by 1.7% compared to October 2019, the production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products - by 4.1%, the production, supply and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air - by 6.3%, textile production, production of clothing, leather, leather goods and other materials - by 18.9%, production of chemicals and chemical products - by 22.2%, mechanical engineering - by 39.5%.

Since the beginning of 2020, compared with January-October 2019, the volume of production increased in metallurgical production and the production of finished metal products by 2.3%, in the production of food products, beverages and tobacco products - by 6.3%. In January-October 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, the output of products in the production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 8.0%, in the production of coke and petroleum products - by 9.0%, in the production of chemicals and products - by 11.1%, mechanical engineering - by 15.9%, mining and quarrying - by 16.1%, production, supply and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - also by 16.1%, textile production, production of clothing, leather, leather goods and other materials - by 28.3%.

The production of raw coal in January-October 2020 compared to the same period in 2019 decreased by 20.8% and amounted to 8.6 million tons. The volume of hard coal, including shipped raw coal and beneficiation products, amounted to 7.6 million tons, which is 16.1% less than in January-October 2019. The monthly volume of hard coal increased by 15.6% compared to September 2020, and by 11.2% against October 2019.

Electricity production in January-October 2020 decreased by 22.4% compared to January-October 2019 and amounted to 9.6 billion kWh. In October 2020, the volume of generated electricity was less than in October of the previous year, by 9.9%, and compared to September 2020, it increased by 21.5%.
