The PRC Ministry of Industry and Informatization said on Tuesday that China will take measures to improve the performance of electric vehicle batteries in cold temperatures.
The ministry will require automakers, battery manufacturers and research institutes to strive for technological breakthroughs and accelerate the development and preparation for mass production of all-weather car batteries, said the ministry's spokesman Huang Libin at a press conference.
In addition, he stated that efforts would be made to standardize related technologies, adding that automakers should provide better after-sales services.
These steps are in response to recent complaints from some electric vehicle owners about reduced battery capacity and reduced range in cold weather.
This winter, severe cold hit northern China, which led to a sharp drop in air temperature.
