Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group has completed the reconstruction of the aspiration system of the tailings of sinter machines, having fulfilled one of the additional obligations to reduce the environmental load on the region, which are enshrined in memorandums between the plant and the Zaporozhye Regional State Administration, as well as with the Zaporozhye City Council. Investments amounted to over UAH 235 million.

Reconstructed gas purifiers at the tail end of sinter machines provide air purification at the points of unloading the sintered agglomerate onto the conveyor belts. Two bag filters were installed (manufactured by the Berdichev Machine-Building Plant "Progress"), which make it possible to increase the volume of air purified from the tailings of sintering machines by 1.5 times, from 1.6 million m³ /hour to 2.4 million m³ /hour, and provide dust removal less than 45 mg /m3.

Emission control devices of the new equipment are connected to the centralized online monitoring system of Zaporizhstal emissions. After the completion of the commissioning of the equipment, the average daily indicators of online monitoring sensors will be made publicly available on the plant's website.

It should be noted that Metinvest's Zaporizhstal is the first among industrial enterprises in Zaporozhye to transfer data from online environmental monitoring of emissions to the public. Zaporizhstal implements the environmental monitoring system of emissions as part of a comprehensive program of environmental transformation of production - all modernized facilities of the enterprise are equipped with control sensors at emission sources.

Since 2012, Zaporizhstal has invested more than UAH 15 billion in environmental modernization. In addition to equipping the sinter plant with new gas cleaning units, blast furnaces No. 2, 3, 4 were reconstructed with modern aspiration systems. An environmentally friendly hydrochloric acid pickling line was built, which made it possible to completely eliminate the discharge from the cold rolling shop No. 1 in the river. Dnieper and sulfuric acid vapors into the atmosphere.
