TMK shared its experience in implementing artificial intelligence in industry

Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies at all stages of the production chain and has started testing solutions based on generative AI. This was stated by Dmitry Yakob, TMK's Deputy General Director for Information Technology, at the Kaspersky Industrial Cybersecurity Conference, organized by "Kaspersky Lab".

During the plenary discussion "Trusted AI Architecture in Industry: Where the border of secure autonomy lies", Dmitry Yakob noted that TMK has been implementing a corporate concept for the development of digital technologies since 2020, including areas for the introduction of AI and cybersecurity. During this time, the company has moved from pilot projects to application solutions based on machine learning and computer vision. Currently, generative AI technologies are also being tested at TMK.

"Digitalization of production is one of TMK's priority areas of development, and the company is consistently expanding the use of IT solutions in enterprises. The accumulated experience allows us to move from individual projects to the systematic use of artificial intelligence in production activities and evaluate the effect of implementing such solutions," said Dmitry Yakob.

AI at TMK is used, in particular, in the steelmaking and pipe-rolling industries. In steelmaking, machine learning-based solutions are used to analyze technological parameters, determine the optimal charge composition, and control steelmaking processes. Computer vision is used to assess the quality and composition of raw materials. In pipe rolling, computer vision technologies are used to detect surface defects and control weld quality.

"At each stage of the production chain, we use solutions that meet specific technological challenges: from raw material control and optimization of steelmaking parameters to quality control of finished products. At the same time, the introduction of AI allows not only to improve product quality and process efficiency, but also to reduce risks. The cumulative economic effect of the solutions in this area amounts to several billion rubles per year," said Dmitry Yakob.

The annual Kaspersky Industrial Cybersecurity Conference is dedicated to industrial cybersecurity issues, including the use of AI, the development of trusted digital infrastructure and the security of automated systems. In 2026, the event was held under the theme "About the main thing from opinion leaders".
