In the roasting shop of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant (an enterprise of the UMMC metallurgical complex), the technical re-equipment of the KS-5 fluidized bed furnace has begun. The KS furnace is the main metallurgical equipment designed for roasting the charge in the zinc production process.
Roasting is an important stage in the zinc production process chain. During the roasting process, sulfur is removed from the concentrate, which makes it possible to process the concentrate further.
“This kiln has been operating for more than 10 years,” said Andrey Berdov, deputy head of the roasting department. - Despite the overhaul of KS-5, due to the operation of other furnaces, the volume of production does not decrease. As part of the renovation, we dismantled the foundation and the old masonry, and actually rebuilt the furnace. In addition, we have renewed the evaporative cooling unit. ”
The furnace body is made of 10 mm thick carbon steel. Special refractory bricks can withstand temperatures up to 980 ° C. There are five fluidized bed furnaces in the roasting shop. About 400 tons of charge passes through each of them per day. Furnaces are overhauled every 8-10 years. This is necessary to maintain the safe and efficient condition of this equipment. It is planned to complete the overhaul of KS-5 in October. The costs of the enterprise for the overhaul amounted to about 90 million rubles.
