the Sharp rise in prices for metals including copper, observed in recent months is temporary and will soon be replaced by falling prices amid surplus supply.

On the world market rising prices for industrial metals

On the London metal exchange (LME) copper prices in October increased from 5 USD 610 per tonne as at 1.10.2019 5 to $ 883 per ton in 30.10.2019. According to Valery Studentsova, expert GP "dzi" the first impulse to this was given back to Chinese consumers after a week-long celebration of the founding of the PRC.

Later in Chile, which is the largest copper producer in the world, the civil protests, which the country introduced a state of emergency. There is also the threat of a nationwide strike that could cripple the industry or complicate the delivery of finished products to foreign markets. In Peru (the second largest copper producer in the world) protesting against the mining operations blocked the road to the country's largest mine, Las Bambas, and if the issue can not be solved, the production will be paralyzed.

the destabilization of the situation in Chile and Peru has caused an excessive demand for copper and led to a decrease in the volume of metal in warehouses LME with 290,25 thousand tons as at 3.10.2019 to 250,75 thousand tons 29.10.2019 and to higher prices.

Experts from the International Copper Study Group considered the current situation with the sharp rise in copper prices temporary and forecast for the next year, a slight increase in copper production against the background of a lesser growth of consumption, leading to surplus material and limit the rate of price growth.

In Europe today, there is a low demand for copper cathodes on the background of significant volumes of their proposals, and therefore, at the conclusion of the annual contracts for the year 2020 for the supply of copper producers will try to keep the size of the annual premium to the price of copper cathodes at the level 2019го, as stated by the German Aurubis (the same position in the Chilean Codelco). A feature of the European market there is a surplus of copper scrap, and so manufacturers of copper semi-finished products in recent years, use more scrap than cathodes due to lower prices of scrap copper.

According to International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the largest growth of production of primary aluminum in January - September, 2019, among other regions of the world, took place in the Persian Gulf by 2.67% compared to the same period in 2018, to 4,109 million tons, and it is the second highest in the world after China, where it was produced 26,788 million tons (1,43%).

Asia (excluding China and the Gulf countries) the production of primary aluminum was $ 3 302 000 tons (+ 0,18%), Eastern and Central Europe – 3 099 000 tonnes (+ 2,28%), North America (USA and Canada) – 2 858 000 tonnes (+ 1,93%), Western Europe – 2 587 000 tonnes (7,44%), Oceania – 1 436 000 tonnes (+ 0,28%), African – 1 233 000 tons (1,12%), South America (all countries in Latin America) - 787 thousand tons (of 11.57%, which is the worst indicator among other regions through the world's largest energy consumption per tonne of aluminium – 15 919 kWh in 2018, for comparison, in China the figure is 13 555 kW • h).

In the countries of Western Europe, where also a significant decrease in production volumes, energy consumption per tonne of aluminium are 15442 kWh, which is significantly higher than the world average (14210 kWh).

According to the specified source, the production of alumina in China in January - September 2019 was 53 575 000 tons, which is 1% higher compared to the same period in 2018.
