Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for increased efforts to accelerate the transition to a green development paradigm and achieve a double win in both economic growth and environmental protection.
Xi Jinping made the announcement at the Leadership Summit of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) via video link in Beijing.
Xi Jinping said that a favorable environment is not only a gift from nature, but also an asset that determines how effectively the economy and society will develop.
Man must live in complete harmony with nature, he said.
Noting that the COVID-19 pandemic has darkened the prospects for global development, complicated the already difficult path of implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Xi Jinping said that developing countries, while facing the challenges of economic recovery and environmental protection, more in need of help and support.
We need to strengthen solidarity to overcome all the difficulties so far, so that the fruits of development and a good environment can be enjoyed by the people of all countries to a greater and more equitable extent, Xi Jinping said.
“We live in a time when challenges are intertwined with hope. Only those who walk stubbornly and persistently can overcome the road. For the sake of a common future, it is time to jointly embark on a new campaign - the path to high-quality development of humanity, ”Xi Jinping said.
