China's wind and solar power capacity continues to skyrocket

In the first two months of this year, China saw a sharp increase in the installed capacity of wind and solar power plants as the country actively pursues efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, according to data from the National Energy Administration of the PRC.

According to the agency, between January and February, the installed capacity of wind farms increased by 17.5% year on year and amounted to 330 million kW.

During this period, the installed capacity of solar power plants reached 320 million kW, which is 22.7% more than a year earlier.

By the end of last month, China's total installed power generation capacity stood at 2.39 billion kWh, up 7.8% year on year.

China has announced that it will aim to achieve peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.

To this end, according to a document jointly issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council of the People's Republic of China, China will make efforts to gradually increase the share of non-fossil energy sources in total energy consumption to approximately 20% by 2025, to 25% by 2030 year and up to more than 80% by 2060.
