Starting on April 8 this year, when China's new train scheme goes into effect, the Chinese authorities will launch additional freight trains to increase coal traffic amid the country's efforts to secure energy supplies.
According to the scheme, new freight trains will be added to transport coal from the Shanxi province, which is rich in this raw material, to the eastern regions of the country, the Chinese Railways Corporation (CRC) said.
In addition, more heavy-haul trains will be put into operation to increase the country's ability to transport coal from north to south.
It also notes that the adjustment will further increase the country's ability to transport thermal coal and provide better support to the stable functioning of the national economy.
In addition, high-speed trains will be added to optimize rail routes in the central and eastern parts of the country, as well as provide passengers with more travel options, the document says.
