ThyssenKrupp suggested the Italian state shipbuilding company Fincantieri to redeem 50% of its division Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), which builds submarines and ships for the German Navy and other countries of the European Union. According to Reuters ThyssenKrupp also discusses the question of unification TKMS with smaller German rivals Luerssen and German naval shipyards (GNYK). One of the options being discussed involves the purchase by Luerssen share of just over 50% in GNYK in the first stage, and ThyssenKrupp may be involved at a later stage, said two people familiar with the matter.
Thyssenkrupp may also decide to keep the unit, which brought in 1.8 billion euros in sales and 1 million euros adjusted operating profit for the last financial year, and develop it yourself, the source said.
At the end of last year, Thyssenkrupp said it plans to invest 250 million euros in TKMS by 2023, which will stimulate growth and add to the end of this year 500 new employees.
