thyssenkrupp Steel purchases the world's first carbon-free lime for steelmaking

thyssenkrupp Steel has set itself the goal of becoming a non-climate company by 2050. By 2030, CO2 emissions from the production processes of Germany's largest steelmaking company should be reduced by 30 percent.

Largest German steelmaker to use LEVEL climate neutral product line | BLUE® from international lime manufacturer Lhoist for decarbonising the supply chain towards sustainable steel production, says message thyssenkrupp.

Lime products are used in steel making, in particular to remove unwanted by-products from cast iron and to support slag formation. thyssenkrupp Steel will purchase desulfurization mixtures for steel mills from the new LEVEL product line | BLUE® from Lhoist, thereby reducing CO2 emissions in the supply chain.

“We are right in the middle of the transition to climate-neutral steel,” explains Dr. Jens Geimer, Head of Purchasing and Supply at thyssenkrupp Steel. “Our approach is holistic: in addition to decarbonizing our own plants, we also want to gradually build our supply chains by 2050 in a climate-neutral way. For this we are in close contact with our suppliers. We are delighted that with Lhoist we now have a partner in the lime sector to support us in this. ”
