Metinvest

Metinvest and Danieli are one step closer to establishing a 3 billion euro environmentally friendly steel sheet production joint venture in Piombino, Italy.

Both companies have signed an agreement to formalize their interests in Metinvest's subsidiary Adria, which will oversee the construction of a new plant in Tuscany. Under the terms of the agreement, Metinvest will own 75% of the shares of the new company, while Danieli will retain the remaining shares.

The planned production based on electric steelmaking equipment, which will be built at the former JSW site in Piombino, which Metinvest took over in 2024, will be designed for annual revenue. After the construction is completed, the production capacity will be up to 2.7 million tons.

SSAB

Swedish steel company SSAB has held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its new environmentally friendly steel plant in Lulea, Sweden.

The project consists of two stages: and dry-powered electrostatic cookers, with a combined annual production volume of 2.5 million tons. This equipment will replace the blast furnace production that is currently operating at the plant.

In addition, the company plans to modernize the hot and cold rolling equipment at the Luleå plant. SSAB's total investment in the project will amount to 4.5 billion euros. The commissioning is currently scheduled for the second half of 2029.

Cognor

Steel company Cognor has begun hot testing of its new 450,000—ton-per-year light profile manufacturing plant in Siemianowice Śląsk, southern Poland, ahead of its October 23 opening.

The million development project, launched in 2018, replaces equipment at the company's now-decommissioned factory in Zaverce, increasing annual production by 350,000 tons.

The plant will produce profiles and rods for the construction, automotive, energy and defense industries.
