Newcrest begins drilling for the Greatland Gold project in Western Australia

Newcrest Mining, Australia's largest gold producer, will launch the largest drilling program to date for the Greatland Gold Havieron gold and copper project in the Western Australian Paterson region in June.

Exploration is fully funded by Newcrest, which is committed to spending $ 5 million on the gold and copper project over the next 12 months.

Newcrest plans to process any ore from the Havieron mine at Telfer, located just 45 km west.

Several large gold-copper deposits have already been explored in the Paterson region, such as Nifty, Winu and Telfer, owned by Newcrest. The world's second largest miner, Rio Tinto is also investing heavily in this area, and its recent application for about 30 exploration licenses has caused panic among miners in neighboring areas, who think that such a vigorous activity indicates a promising find. p>
