At a meeting on Wednesday evening between Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko and European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, issues of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, security of gas supplies to Europe, possible options for reducing the impact of the energy crisis on the European region were discussed.
According to Commissioner Simson, the European Commission is ready to consult with Ukraine in the process of preparing the Commission's opinion on the draft decision of the German Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur on certification of Nord Stream 2.
Thus, Ukraine will become an active participant in the certification process, not only politically, but also legally.
In addition, the Ukrainian side was invited to take part in the "risk group" created in accordance with the Regulation on Security of Supply, which consists exclusively of EU member states. The purpose of the meeting of the "risk group" will be consultations on the state of energy security in Ukraine, development of joint solutions and mutual assistance together with European countries in crisis situations.
“We really appreciate the support of Ukraine from our European partners. Ukraine's accession to the preparation of the conclusion of the Nord Stream 2 Certification Commission and the European risk group confirms that our state is an equal partner of Europe in the energy sector. We have high-quality expertise in the field of gas transportation, handling large volumes of gas and an understanding of how Russia can violate European rules. Therefore, the involvement of Ukraine in the European processes of ensuring energy security will be beneficial for both Ukraine and Europe. We are already taking all the necessary steps to ensure the security of energy supplies to Europe and are proposing solutions that, in the long term, will strengthen the energy security of the entire region, ”emphasized Herman Galuschenko.
