The signing took place in the Verkhovna Rada at a meeting of the Interfactional Deputy Associations "Energy Efficient Ukraine" and "Railway of Ukraine".

“Ukrzaliznytsia is a strategic enterprise in Ukraine. And it is important to understand, firstly, its dependence on the imported resource, which is a matter of national security. Secondly, it is a basic enterprise that, for its part, ensures the competitiveness of the domestic economy. Therefore, the State Energy Efficiency is ready to support Ukrzaliznytsia in the development and implementation of the strategy and energy efficiency program as much as possible, "Valeriy Bezus said.

“We are open to cooperation. It is important to implement a modern certified energy management system. We are also developing the first draft of the hydrogen strategy, the National Renewable Energy Action Plan until 2030 with goals, incl. for transport. All this directly concerns and is a challenge for the transport sector, "added the head of the agency.

Bezus also noted a certain progress of Ukrzaliznitsa in energy efficiency issues. There are plans for the electrification of railways, cooperation with the EBRD on the implementation of an energy management system and the preparation of an energy efficiency investment plan.

As you know, the share of electrified tracks in the total network of Ukrainian railways is 47%. This year, Ukrzaliznytsia is to electrify 50 km of roads. This is twice as much as over the past 8 years combined (23 km). In the next 3 years, it is planned to electrify 500 km of tracks.

"Electrification of railways and the introduction of energy management are today recognized as the main measures to improve energy efficiency in rail transport in Europe and Ukraine," said MP Mykola Tishchenko.

“We expect that energy efficiency projects and partnership with the agency will bring results not only to Ukrzaliznitsa. This practice should be used and broadcast to other powerful industrial enterprises, ”concluded Bezus.

As part of cooperation and exchange of experience, the State Energy Efficiency Agency will also assist in the preparation of high-quality applications and feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects in the development of project documentation.
