Ferrexpo continues to ship iron ore from Ukraine to the EU by rail

Swiss iron ore company controlling Poltava, Yeristovsky and Belanovsky GOKs announced that it ships part of its products across the western border of Ukraine to customers in Europe.

Ferexpo stressed that it is not yet clear if there is track capacity available and, if so, the amount of pellets the group will be able to supply to its European customers.

Earlier on Friday, Ferrexpo announced a force majeure event for offshore deliveries of iron ore, announcing the suspension of shipments of pellets to customers in Yuzhny port on the Black Sea following notification from the port authorities.

Furthermore, Ferrexpo declined to release the company's earnings last year, citing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, "which requires significant management attention and therefore impacts normal internal financial reporting processes."

The company increased its revenue by 74.3% to $1.3 billion during the first half of 2021.

Ferrexpo is the third largest pellet exporter in the world after Vale and LKAB. The company said on February 24 that it is closely monitoring developments in Ukraine and will prioritize the safety of its workforce while the group's mining and processing operations continue to operate.

Other suppliers of iron ore pellets - Ukrainian GOKs Metinvest and Russian quarries of Metalloinvest also continue to deliver to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe.
