The Zaporizhstal Metallurgical Plant today remains in hot conservation mode and operates as a humanitarian hub, but the plant is considering a plan to partially launch production capacities. This was stated on March 22 live by the head of the Center for the Coordination of the Humanitarian Mission of Metinvest in Zaporizhia, General Director of Zaporizhstal Alexander Mironenko.
“Currently, the enterprise is in the mode of hot conservation of the main equipment. We have stopped the main production facilities in such a way that there is no threat of restoration of production. Specialists are working at the industrial site, supporting the production units in the conservation mode. We continue to ship the products in our warehouses and are now considering the possibility of partially launching a cold rolling shop in order to resume the production and shipment of cold rolled coils to a European consumer,” said Alexander Mironenko.
The controlled military situation in Zaporozhye contributes to the decision to partially resume work. In addition, the company is convinced that a working economy only brings the victory of Ukraine closer, and now every enterprise, every business must make efforts to return to a working rhythm. While the production workers are developing a roadmap for the point launch of individual production facilities.
Despite the fact that the plant is on hot mothballing, metallurgists do not waste time: a coordination hub for humanitarian aid for victims of hostilities operates at the Zaporizhstal base. The center accepts, sorts and sends humanitarian aid from the “Save Life” headquarters, created by Metinvest and DTEK in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, to people affected by the hostilities.
Metinvest's Humanitarian Mission Coordination Center in Zaporozhye is also creating conditions for the reception of internally displaced persons from Ukrainian cities most affected by Russia's military aggression. At the same time, about 1,000 Ukrainians forced to leave their homes can be accommodated at Metinvest's social facilities in Zaporozhye. Metinvest's coordination center helped equip the regional authorities with another 2,000 places to accommodate people.
“Metinvest Group in Zaporozhye has created centers for the reception of migrants on the basis of six social facilities. We have already sheltered thousands of people, they receive all the necessary assistance. We provide them with food and clothes, solve everyday issues, and provide medical assistance to the victims. We understand that Zaporozhye is a transit city for internally displaced persons, so we try to create the most comfortable conditions for them to recuperate. About 450 migrants from the hot spots of Ukraine live permanently at our facilities,” said Alexander Mironenko.
Volunteers of the Youth Metinvest organization in Zaporozhye also collect humanitarian aid and hand it over to the IDPs. During the existence of the volunteer initiative, young employees have already donated more than 10 tons of first needs to the IDPs.
