The "Kametstal" plant of the "Metinvest" mining and metallurgical group, created at the facilities of the Dnieper Metallurgical Combine (GTK, Kamenskoye, Dnepropetrovsk region), continues to work on the development of casting of continuously improved quality using a long continuous casting machine (MBLS) No. 1 .
According to the plant's press release, the peculiarity of the new stop casting technology is that the steel stream in the gap between the ladle and the mold is protected by a submersible nozzle. This protects the hot metal from secondary oxidation, which negatively affects its macrostructure, and gives the workpiece the increased quality required by consumers for some special orders.
At the same time, it is clarified that the new technology makes it possible to partially replace the MBLS assortment No. 2 and thus reduce the costs of additional re-rolling at the pipe procurement stage.
Last year, at the first stage, Kametstal successfully mastered the production of continuously cast billets with a cross-section of 160x160 mm with increased requirements for the chemical composition and macrostructure from steel grades St3ps/sp, C72D2, C80D2, 70, Ш2, S355. These steel grades were chosen as "pilot" grades in the project because of their special demand from key consumers of the enterprise's products, as well as under the program for the development of new types of products.
"Now the most experienced specialists - steelmakers, repairmen, technical management specialists of the plant, who are involved in this large-scale project, have focused primary attention on mastering the production of non-ferrous steel with a cross section of 200x200 mm from steel grades C72D2, C80D2, C50, S60, S60 information The company's priorities include improving the acquired skills, selecting optimal materials and refractories, and increasing production. First of all, through practical tests, optimal granulated slag-forming mixtures are selected that provide lubrication of the walls of the molds and avoid secondary oxidation of the metal. Work is also being done to increase the resistance of submersibles. glasses. Successful mastery of stop casting technology for continuous castings provides additional prospects for expanding the range of steel products. Last year, metallurgists produced and shipped 2,218 tons of NLS-160 and 3,042 tons of NLZ-200 of improved quality to orders from Ukrainian and foreign consumers. "In 2024, there is already a program for fulfilling such orders, according to which they are increasing the volume of production of workpieces using new technology and at the same time working to expand its assortment. These are high-margin products that will improve the efficiency of the workshop and the enterprise as a whole," the press notes. release.
"Kametstal" was created on the basis of PrJSC "Dneprovsky Coke Plant" (GKKhZ) and Central Group of Companies PJSC "Dneprovsky Metallurgical Plant" (GTK). According to the report of the parent company of the Metinvest group for 2020, Metinvest BV (Netherlands) owned 100% of the shares of GKKHZ.
