According to Ukrmetallurgprom, in January-March 2021, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 4.73 million tons of rolled metal (101.4% relative to January-March 2020), of which, according to V.S. K. GROUP, exported about 4.02 million tons, or 84.9%. In the first quarter of 2020, the share of exports amounted to 84.8% (3.96 million tons with a total production of 4.67 million tons of rolled metal).
The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for three months of 2021 accounted for 50.21%, which is slightly lower than the indicator for the same period in 2020 (51.88%). The share of flat products in export deliveries in January-March 2021 is noticeably higher than in January-March 2020 (35.46% and 30.32%, respectively). The share of long products in export deliveries for three months of 2021 is noticeably inferior to the indicator for the same period in 2020 (14.33% in 2021 versus 17.81% in 2020).
In January-March 2021, the capacity of the domestic market amounted to 905.0 thousand tons of rolled metal, of which 190.0 thousand tons, or 20.99%, accounted for imports. In January-March 2020, the capacity of the domestic market was 966.7 thousand tons, of which 255.7 thousand tons, or 26.45%, were imported. Thus, for three months of 2021, there is a decrease in the capacity of the domestic market for rolled metal products by 6.38% compared to January-March 2020, with a simultaneous decrease in the share of the import component by 5.46%.
The structure of imports in January-March 2021 is characterized by the domination of flat products over long products (55.00% and 42.68%, respectively); On the contrary, in the first quarter of 2020, long products dominated over flat products (51.74% and 46.54%, respectively).
The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-March 2021, according to V.S.K. GROUP, are the countries of the European Union (31.3%), other European countries (23.3%) and NAFTA countries (10.1%).
Among metallurgical importers in the first quarter of 2021, the first place is taken by the CIS (51.6%), the second is the EU-27 (24.4%), and the third is the countries of Asia (13.8%).
