In the department of fine purification of converter gases of the copper smelting shop of JSC "Sredneuralskiy copper smelting plant" (an enterprise of the metallurgical complex of UMMC) construction and installation work is being completed at the unit for loading dust from electrostatic precipitators.

The new facility will not only improve the environmental situation in the workshops, but also reduce the cost of delivering dust to consumers. This by-product can now be reused in production - in the production of zinc. The total cost of the project is estimated at 104.8 million rubles.

Converter gases entering the sulfuric acid shop pass through electrostatic precipitators, where they are cleaned of dust. After that, the gases go to the production of sulfuric acid, and the dust is unloaded into soft containers - big bags, which are then sent to consumers. The building of the new dust loading unit is 90% ready, communications are being installed and the territory is being landscaped.

- Before the cold weather begins, we plan to completely close the building outline, and by the end of the year, to launch the dust loading unit. Now equipment is being purchased: conveyors, aspiration and ventilation systems. In November, the enterprise will receive two vibration grinding units to increase the bulk density of dust, - said Mikhail Polovinkin, deputy head of the copper smelting shop.

After the loading unit is commissioned, the dust will first be compacted in mills and only then packed into big bags. Metallurgists conducted a study and found that dust particles are in the shape of a star, the rays of which interfere with compaction. In order to reduce transportation costs, the dust will be passed through a vibration grinding unit. In fact, it is a mill that breaks off the "spikes" of particles, reducing them in volume. Thus, one container for transportation will not contain 400 kg of products, but about 1 ton.

The dust compaction procedure will more than double its bulk density. As a result, vehicles and railway cars, in which the products are delivered to consumers, will be used more efficiently.
