Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will hold talks with Mitsui E&S Holdings on the acquisition of shipbuilding business of the company. About it reports Reuters with a link to the Mitsubishi statement.

the acquisition of the shipbuilding division of Mitsui E&S can help Mitsubishi Heavy, the largest defense company of Japan, to better compete for Navy contracts. It could also be a preliminary step to consolidation among the many manufacturers of military equipment in Japan.

"Mitsui E&S has strengths in shipbuilding and repair for the Department of defense, including supply vessels and the Supervisory court", - said in a statement Mitsubishi Heavy.

Both companies will seek to reach agreement by the end of the year, and Mitsubishi will acquire this unit by October of next year, if the deal receives regulatory approval.

After completion of the design phase, a prototype unmanned navigation systems will be installed on the big speed car ferry ordered by the company Shin Nihonkai Ferry, which will be built at the main plant Nakazakicho Tategami shipyard and engineering plant MHI.
