Vestas plans to build a new plant for the production of wind farm parts in Szczecin, Poland - it plans to produce blades for Vestas' flagship V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine. This was reported in the Vestas press center.
Vestas expects the plant to be launched in 2026. The new facility will create a further 1,000 jobs in the Polish city.
“Vestas intends to lead the development of a sustainable supply chain in Europe that can provide the scale needed to meet the expected growth in demand for offshore wind. Our plans for two new offshore plants in Poland highlight that Europe can stimulate investment in the wind industry and green jobs with the right long-term policy commitments for offshore wind projects,” said Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer of Vestas.
As noted by Niels de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, Poland is transforming its energy system and is a promising wind energy market with good wind conditions both onshore and offshore. Poland also has a highly skilled workforce and a growing wind industry, which could become an offshore hub for the Baltic region and the rest of Europe.
The new blade factory is planned to be located on a site in northern Szczecin that Vestas acquired in February 2023. The site is located near the island of Ostrów Brdowski in Szczecin, where the previously planned Vestas nacelle assembly factory will be located, which will become operational in 2025.
