Polish Power Group PGE and the Danish company Orsted began the construction of the Baltica 2 naval wind farm, which is one of the largest projects of offshore wind energy in the world.
The project is estimated at 30 billion zlotys ($ 7.4 billion) and It is a key part of Poland’s energy strategy.
“By 2040, we plan to produce 18 gigavatt of wind energy, which is equivalent to four nuclear power plants,” the Polish government noted.
On the Baltica 2 project
Baltica 2 will be located in the Baltic Sea with the nearest turbine 40 km from the coast. VES will consist of 107 turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW, occupying an area of about 190 km².
Who finances?
Project financing includes 15 billion zlotys ($ 3.7 billion) from PGE and 6 billion zlotys (1.5 billion dollars) from the national recovery plan.
It is planned that the wind farm will be commissioned until 2027, and within three years it is expected that offshore wind energy will cover 20% of consumption Electricity in Poland.
