After the dismissal of Carlos Tavawares, Stellantis departs from an aggressive strategy for the development of electric vehicles, since sales of electric vehicles do not correspond to expectations. The future Stla Small platform, originally planned as 100% electric, will now also support internal combustion engines.

Despite the decrease in sales of diesel cars in Europe, the Stellantis corporation, formed in 2021 as a result of the merger of the ITAL-American company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the French PSA Group, doubles the production of diesel engines, expanding the production and adapting the existing models to to standards Euro-7.

The plant in Tremere (near Metz, France), which was supposed to stop the production of diesel engines by 2025, will now work until 2030, Les Echos reports. In addition, a new lesser diesel engine can be developed, and a diesel engine previously reserved for commercial transport is adapted for cars.

The Stellantis plant in Renna recently added a production team due to great demand for Citroën C5 Aircons Diesel.

Similarly, Peugeot 308 Diesel continues to be sold well, which indicates that diesel still has a viable market, despite a decrease in the availability of models.

In addition to diesel engines, Stellantis increases the power of internal combustion engines at its factories around the world. The production of 3-cylinder engines assembled in Tremar (France), Poland, Hungary, India and Morocco will be expanded to satisfy growing demand.

Meanwhile, an additional production line in thermal, Italy will produce 300,000 automatic EDCT gearboxes for hybrid engines annually.
