On October 9th, BYD celebrated an important event:A 14 millionth new-energy vehicle rolled off the assembly line at a factory in Camasar, Brazil, according to CarNewsChina. The ceremony was attended by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alcmin, Chinese Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao, Governor of Bahia Geronimo Rodriguez and BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu.
The landmark car, the Song Pro hybrid SUV, was presented to Lula and registered in his name. Chinese media reported that this is BYD's first "super flexible" hybrid designed specifically for South America, and a special version of the COP30 equipped with the brand's latest hybrid technology optimized for local fuels and driving conditions.
Wang noted that BYD has been operating in Brazil for more than 11 years, serving more than 170,000 customers, and has been the NEV market leader in the country for two years in a row, with its regional operations covering electric buses, passenger cars, and battery assembly. Lula welcomed the investments aimed at revitalizing Bahia's industrial base and developing clean technology production. BYD also promised to provide 30 special NEVS for Cop30 in Belem, which will then be transferred to local schools and government agencies. On the eve of the event, the Bahia Assembly renamed the main road near the factory "BYD Road", which became the third such honor for the company after Lancaster (USA) and Rayong (Thailand). BYD reached the 10 million NEV mark in November 2024, adding four million in less than a year.
