on November 28 in Vienna held a bilateral meeting between Minister of energy and the environmental protection of Ukraine Alexey Orzhel and Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak in the framework of preparation for the signing of the contract on gas transportation through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

As told in the press service of Mineconomy of Ukraine, the parties discussed the possibility of signing the contract in accordance with the European rules and agreed to intensify work. The negotiations will continue in both bilateral and in the trilateral format, with the European side, the Ministry noted.

"Signing long-term gas transportation contract in accordance with the European legislation and on economically sound terms is the issue of energy security not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. We, as a reliable partner, should ensure the stability and continuity of natural gas transportation to European markets", - stated in statement Minamaneho of Ukraine, published on the evening of 28 November.

the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation said that the talks also attended by the Chairman of the Board of PJSC "Gazprom" Alexey Miller, heads of "Naftogaz of Ukraine" and "Operator of the gas transportation system of Ukraine".

"the Parties discussed Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the gas sphere — the settlement of mutual claims under the contract, the conditions of transit of Russian gas to Europe from 2020, the prospects for direct purchase of Russian gas to Ukrainian consumers", - announced the energy Ministry.

Recall that the Executive Director of "Naftogaz of Ukraine" Yuriy Vitrenko said that gas transit via the territory of Ukraine without a new contract with Gazprom will end January 1, 2020.

Before "Naftogaz" called the deadline for the transit contract with "Gazprom". According to Vitrenko, the deadline is December 13, because under EU regulations a contract must be concluded in advance to book long term capacity.
