Aviation company Rolls-Royce said it would cut 9,000 jobs and warned that the global aviation industry will take “several years” to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
The downsizing of nearly a fifth of the company's workforce will primarily affect its civilian aerospace division. Most of the job cuts are expected to take place in the UK.
Air travel has largely stopped since the coronavirus began spreading around the world and many airlines have announced drastic job cuts.
Rolls-Royce CEO Warren East said a "major reorganization" of the business would allow it "to adapt to the new level of demand we see from customers.
In addition to losing jobs, the company said it would cut costs. Total cost savings are expected to be £ 1.3 billion.
