At the pipe procurement section of the rolling shop of the Dnieper Metallurgical Combine (DMK), the final stage of the overhaul of the heating furnace No. 3 and the replacement of the gas metal recuperator was started. Previously, the dismantling of the refractory masonry and the metal structures of the unit was carried out. Three-zone methodical heating furnace No. 3 is designed for heating steel billets before rolling at the hot rolling mill.
As the head of the section of heating devices Valery Kucher said, due to the long-term operation of the unit, the metal gas recuperator was worn out. About 40% of the pipes were out of order and were damped, which significantly reduced the heat output of the unit.
Deputy Head of the Rolling Shop Roman Linchenko:
“Overhaul of the metal recuperator will significantly improve the quality of blast furnace gas heating, thereby reducing the consumption of natural gas during the operation of the furnace. The ceramic recuperator for heating air must also be cleaned and repaired, which will allow the heat balance of the furnace to be brought back to normal during its operation. ”
New thermal insulation blocks will be installed on the water-cooled skid pipes, through which the metal is transported to the furnace. This will improve the conditions for heat exchange of metal with furnace gases and, as a result, will also allow the company to save expensive natural gas.
The estimated saving of natural gas after the implementation of the above measures will be 1 Gcal /h. This will also reduce the consumption coefficient of metal and increase the hourly productivity of the pipe shop.
Currently, the refractory masonry of the arch vault of the ceramic air recuperator is being replaced and the stage-by-stage installation of parts and assemblies of the unit is being carried out. Ukrspetsmekhanomontazh LLC and Inventum-Ukraine LLC are involved in the overhaul. The previous major overhaul of the unit was carried out in 2012.
